The Link Between Agent Orange, Herbicides and Type 2 Diabetes

Every Diabetic has a different story.  I hear stories of how some develop Type 2 Diabetes from a virus and some from another disease that manifests itself and causes Type 2 Diabetes.  In my case, it was Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Once my hormones got out of whack, it just messed everything up!

Most people still think that Type 2 Diabetes develops simply because an individual has not lived a healthy lifestyle.  It's a common misconception.  Today, I want to talk about another cause of Type 2 Diabetes that is rarely mentioned.

Did you know that Veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange or herbicides during military service are at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes?  A connection does not even have to be proven for them to be eligible for VA disability compensation.

Veterans who served in Vietnam, the Korean demilitarized zone or another area where Agent Orange was sprayed may be eligible for a free Agent Orange Registry health exam.  Surviving spouses, dependent children and dependent parents of Veterans who were exposed to herbicides during military service and died as a result of Type 2 Diabetes may be eligible for survivor's benefits.

So, before you assume that a person has Type 2 Diabetes due to poor lifestyle choices, you'd better make sure you get the story straight from them!  It's becoming more and more evident that Type 2 Diabetes is more complex than that.  Most of the time there is an underlying cause for the disease to manifest itself.  There is usually more to a Diabetic's story than one day they decided to eat everything in sight and gain a ton of weight and wreck their good health.  You will not hear that story from any of us, so please don't make that assumption!  You do know what it means when you assume, right?

Dear God,
Please help us as a country to learn from the mistakes of the past.  Vietnam was nothing less than a tragedy and continues to haunt us.  May we strive for peace as a country, and in our world.  We need to live in harmony with one another, but we can only do that with Your Divine guidance.  We humbly ask that You will help us seek Your Wisdom in our relationships with every human being we come in contact with.  Thank You for hearing our prayer.  In Jesus' Name, Amen.
