Let Me Encourage You to Choose Wisely

The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.  - Walt Disney

Growing up in church, I frequently heard quotes like, "Faith is useless until you put feet to it" and "If you're going to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk."

These types of quotes apply to absolutely every aspect of life.  I think the quote about faith is based on the following scripture:

So also faith, if it does not have works, is dead being by itself.  - James 2:17

In that same passage it talks about how we should actually make an effort to meet the needs of a person who is hungry or in need of something.  Some of that just seems based on good ol' common horse sense as far as I'm concerned.  It's not that our salvation is hinged on what we do - I don't believe it is.  Salvation is a free gift of God and has absolutely nothing to do with what you do - except the act of acceptance.  Helping others is a result of what you've received from the Lord.  Like a side effect of sorts.  An outpouring of the love you have received from God.

I like what Walt Disney said though - just quit talking about what you're gonna do - and DO it already!  No one can dispute the fact that he practiced what he preached!

This is the reason I have decided to write about my life experiences with T2D and share all that I've learned in the past 20+ years!  It's a constant learning curve.  About the time I think I've got it all figured out, there's a brand new wrinkle.  That's why I've determined to write about the whole of it - the good, the bad and the ugly!

When you receive encouragement about wise choices regarding nutrition, exercise, water consumption and positive attitude, what will you do with that information?  Will you say, "Oh, that's good to know" but go on doing what you've always done?  Or will you actually apply what you've learned?  I have to ask myself the same question every day!

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  - Albert Einstein

The reward surely will not come until we take action!  The only way we're going to take off weight and improve blood sugar control is to follow the rules.  Rules are not fun and it's not easy.  We all know the saying "rules are meant to be broken" - but that's a form of denial, which is a direct path to self-destruction and counter-productive thinking!  That kind of thinking is disallowed in my classroom!!!

So, keep putting feet to your faith.  Believe that God will help you reach your goals.  And don't just talk about what you're going to do - do it already!  Be your own advocate and pro-active in your own health.

Your health is worth regaining and you are worth saving.

Please continue to hold me up in your prayers.  I'm still working on weight loss and fighting off an infection.  It's tough to workout when you have a bit of a fever and pain from neuropathy, but I'm still going to try.  Thanks!

Hope is much more than a mood.  It involves a commitment to action... what we hope for should be what we are prepared to work for... as far as that power lies in us.  - John Polkinghorne
