One of the symptoms of a Candida infection is oral thrush. Candida is easy to detect - there is a thick white coating on your tongue. Oil pulling can collect and trap pathogens . Its anti fungal properties will actually kill the yeast in your mouth. It can literally remove the toxins from Candida die-off. It leaves you with a clean, healthy mouth.
Oil pulling was featured in early Ayurvedic medicine, and was first mentioned in the Charaka Samhita (the oldest of the three ancient Ayurvedic treatises). Believe it or not, this dates back to around 300 B.C.!
The treatment re-emerged in the 1990s thanks to a Russian doctor named Dr Karach, who claimed that oil pulling could help with this extensive list of complaints - “headaches, bronchitis, tooth pain, thrombosis, eczema, ulcers and diseases of stomach, intestines, heart, blood, kidney, liver, lungs and women’s diseases. “ Additionally, Dr Karach claimed that, “It heals diseases of nerves, paralysis, and encephalitis. It prevents the growth of malignant tumors, cuts and heals them. Chronic sleeplessness is cured”.
Oil pulling gets its name because it literally pulls the toxins, bacteria, and other pathogens from your system. If you are undergoing Candida Die-Off, you may be experiencing breakouts, headaches, brain fog. These are due to the byproducts of the Herxheimer reaction (or when the yeast cells are rapidly killed). Oil pulling can help remove at least some of these toxins from your body.
Oil pulling is not a difficult process, but it is time-consuming. In order for this to work, you must commit to doing it every morning! When you begin to see a more healthy smile, you will want to continue, believe me!
Note: Always do this on an empty stomach. Do not swallow the oil. Do not gargle with the oil - just swish.
Here's a quick "how to" for you. After brushing your teeth in the morning, put one tablespoon of organic extra virgin coconut oil or sesame oil in your mouth. Swish it around just like mouthwash. Push the oil all around your mouth - between your teeth, under your tongue and across the roof of your mouth. Do this for at least 15 minutes. Go for 20 minutes if you can. Spit it out and rinse out your mouth with salt water (sea salt recommended).
No one has found a good scientific explanation for why oil pulling works, but there are thousands of testimonials to suggest that it does. My oral health left something to be desired before I discovered this process. I was on a slippery slope that was leading to severe gum disease and possible tooth loss. Oil pulling has been key in keeping my smile intact - along with regular dental cleanings, of course.
I might also mention that the reason that so many people have sensitive teeth is not because we brush too hard - we have been blaming the brushes and how hard we brush when we should be blaming the toothpaste! The so-called "whitening" toothpastes have SAND (silica) as one of the first ingredients listed. The bleach used in whitening strips is also quite harsh and very dangerous if accidentally swallowed. Oil pulling is a much more gentle way to detach the toxins from your teeth and whiten them in the process.
An alkaline lifestyle works beautifully with the treatment of a Candida infection. These same foods are basically the ones recommended on a Candida diet. The one rule for both alkaline and Candida diets is think green.
Here's one of my favorite recipes. Enjoy!
